“One Life” is the dramatic story of an English stockbroker who helped rescue 669 primarily Jewish children from German-occupied Czechoslovakia in 1938 and 1939, just prior to the outbreak of World War II. Years later he regrets how many he was not able to help. Director James Hawes did a marvelous job crafting this film, from a well written screenplay by Lucinda Coxon and Nick Drake.
Anthony Hopkins and Johnny Flynn are marvelous as the older and younger Nicholas Winton, respectively, a British hero of the Second World War period. Co-stars include Helena Bonham Carter, Lena Olin, Jonathan Pryce, Alex Sharp, Romola Garai, Samantha Spiro, Marthe Keller, Michael Gould, Adrian Rawlins, Antonie Formanova, and Samuel Finzi as Rabbi Hertz.
“One Life” was popular in theatrical release for BBC Films, See-Saw Films, FilmNation Entertainment, MBK Productions, Cross City Films, LipSync, Bleeker Street, and Warner Bros. Pictures. This film has a similar theme to three other movies: “Schindler’s List” (1993), “The Hiding Place” (1975), and “The Diary of Anne Frank” (1959).
