My Review

“On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” is the sixth in the 007 movie series and tells the story of James Bond once again experiencing problems with Ernst Stavro Blofeld. In this film, Sean Connery has left the series and Eon Productions has hired Australian actor George Lazenby to replace him, with mixed success. It doesn’t seem the same without Connery, but director Peter R. Hunt (“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” 1968) and screenwriter Richard Maibaum filled the movie with so much action and adventure that people flocked to theaters anyway. It was still very busy at the box office for producers Harry Saltzman and Albert R. “Cubby” Broccoli, Eon Productions, and United Artists.

Co-stars along with George Lazenby include Diana Rigg as Bond’s love interest, Telly Savalas as Blofeld, Lois Maxwell as Miss Moneypenny, Bernard Lee as M, and Desmond Llewelyn as Q. Other actors are Ilse Steppat, Gabriele Furzetti, George Baker, Bernard Horsfall, Yuri Borienko, Virginia North, James Bree, and Bessie Love in an uncredited cameo as a baccarat player. She was a silent film star who started in pictures in 1916 and continued working until 1983.

The musical score was once again handled by John Barry. He co-wrote the film’s theme song “We Have All the Time in the World” with Hal David, performed by Louis Armstrong. Sean Connery would return in the seventh James Bond film “Diamonds Are Forever” in 1971.
