My Review

Gene Autry runs into trouble when he is robbed and thrown from a train by an escaped murderer who then assumes his identity. “Oh, Susanna!” is great entertainment from Republic Pictures, producer Nat Levine, director Joseph Kane, and screenwriter Oliver Drake. The film features music written by Stephen Foster, not the least of which is the title song.

Gene Autry’s co-stars include Smiley Burnette, Francis Grant, Earl Hodgins, Donald Kirke, Booth Howard, Clara Kimball Young, Edward Peil, Frankie Marvin, Carl Stockdale, Roscoe Girard, Roger Gray, Fred Burns, Walter James, Lew Meehan, and Fred Snowflake Toones as the train porter. A funny line from the film has Autry exclaim “But I tell you, I’m Gene Autry!” The sheriff replies “And I’m Bing Crosby!”
