My Review

“Ocean’s Eleven” is a heist comedy movie where ex-con Danny Ocean is planning a complex break-in of three Las Vegas casinos with the help of a group of friends and associates. Director Steven Soderbergh (“Erin Brockovich” 2000) put together an engrossing film with outstanding production values, polished performances, stylish execution, and a marvelous screenplay by Ted Griffin. This film is a remake of “Ocean’s 11” (1960), the ninth highest grossing film of the year starring Frank Sinatra and an all-star cast including his Rat Pack friends. “Ocean’s Eleven” was the fifth highest grossing movie of 2001.

The cast includes George Clooney in the lead role, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Carl Reiner, Elliot Gould, Bernie Mac, Don Cheadle, and acrobat Qin Shaobo. Cameo appearances were made by Angie Dickinson and Henry Silva (both from the original “Ocean’s 11”), Wayne Newton, Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme, Lennox Lewis, Siegfried & Roy, and Topher Grace.

The very watchable and highly entertaining “Ocean’s Eleven” was a huge hit at the box office for producer Jerry Weintraub, Village Roadshow Pictures, NPV Entertainment, Section Eight Productions, Jerry Weintraub Productions, and Warner Bros. Pictures. Two sequels followed with most of the original cast: “Ocean’s Twelve” (2004) and “Ocean’s Thirteen” (2007). A spin-off was released in 2018 called “Ocean’s 8” starring Sandra Bullock as Danny Ocean’s sister, featuring an all-star female cast.
