My Review

“Now You See Me” is a heist picture that seems to rely on smoke and mirrors to satisfy the audience. The thin screenplay by Ed Solomon, Boaz Yakin, and Edward Ricourt is greatly disguised by glitzy direction by Louis Leterrier (“Clash of the Titans” 2010) and the all-star cast.

Four small time magicians, played by Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, and Dave Franco are brought together by an unknown person who bankrolls their stage performances, in places like Las Vegas, New Orleans, New York City. Bank robberies are executed at the same time as the performances, or so it seems, on live television screens. Many contradictions in the storyline are never fully resolved in the ending.

The supporting cast includes Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Melanie Laurent, David Warshofsky, Michael Kelly, Common, Jose Garcia, Caitriona Balfe, and Conan O’Brien in a cameo appearance as himself. The mediocre “Now You See Me” as successful at the box office for Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate Pictures.
