My Review

“Noah” is a Biblically-inspired epic motion picture from producer-director Darren Aronofsky (“Black Swan” 2010). He uses not only the account in Genesis, but also extra-Biblical sources, such as “The Book of Enoch,” in his depiction of Noah, the hero of the Flood. Some of the controversial storylines include a group called the Watchers, who aid Noah, to his adversarial relationship with Tubal-cain, a descendant of Cain who was a blacksmith, presumably a designer of murder weapons.

The screenplay, penned by Aronofsky and Ari Handel, did accurately portray the character of Noah, a man whose righteousness stood in contrast to the violent society around him. Russell Crowe’s excellent performance in the title role was without a doubt the center of the film, upon which the other actors played off of.

The supporting cast includes Anthony Hopkins as Noah’s long-living grandfather Methuselah, Jennifer Connelly as Mrs. Noah, Ray Winstone as Tubal-cain, Douglas Booth, Logan Lerman, & Leo McHugh Carroll as Noah’s three sons, Emma Watson as his daughter-in-law, Marton Csokas as Noah’s father Lamech, Madison Davenport as the fiance of the middle son, and Nick Nolte, Frank Langella, Kevin Durand, and Mark Margolis as the voices of the Watchers.

The watchable and thought-provoking movie “Noah” was a success at the box office for Darren Aronofsky and Paramount Pictures.
