My Review

“Murder by Death” is a comedy film that is a broad parody of the traditional country house mystery whodunit genre, written by Neil Simon and directed by Robert Moore. Neil Simon’s dry humor as well interpreted by a diverse cast of big name actors.

This includes David Niven and Maggie Smith (as Nick & Nora Charles of “Thin Man” series), Peter Falk (as Humphrey Bogart’s Sam Spade of “Maltese Falcon”), Elsa Lanchester (as Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple), Peter Sellers (as Charlie Chan), and James Coco (as Christie’s Inspector Poirot). Others in the cast are Alec Guinness, Eileen Brennan, Richard Narita, Nancy Walker, Truman Capote, James Cromwell (in his big screen debut), and Estelle Winwood, her final film role in a career that began in 1931.

The watchable “Murder by Death” was successful at the box office for Rastar and Columbia Pictures.
