My Review

Bernie Mac portrays a former Major League Baseball player who gets back into the game at the age of 47, after discovering that, due to a clerical error, he actually only had 2,997 hits upon his retirement, instead of the 3K he thought he had, in “Mr. 3000” from The Walt Disney Company. Director Charles Stone III (“Paid in Full” 2002) created a smooth sports comedy that is fun to watch. The balanced screenplay was written by Eric Champnella, Keith Mitchell, and Howard Michael Gould.

The supporting cast behind Bernie Mac includes Angela Bassett, Michael Rispoli, Brian J. White, Ian Anthony Dale, Chris Noth, Evan Jones, Dondre Whitfield, Earl Billings, John Schwab, Keegan Michael-Key, and veteran thespian Paul Sorvino as the team’s manager.

Unfortunately, the very watchable “Mr. 3000” was a big flop at the box office for Dimension Films, Spyglass Entertainment, The Kennedy/Marshall Company, Touchstone Pictures, and Buena Vista Pictures Distribution.
