My Review

“Morning Glory” is the story of a Georgia widow in the Great Depression Era who needs a household assistant, and along comes a jobless ex-convict answering her ad. The drama proceeds from there, evenly directed by Steven Hillard Stern (“The Women of Windsor” 1992) from a well written screenplay by Deborah Raffin and Charles Jarrot. It was adapted from the 1989 novel of the same name by LaVyrle Spencer. Though the film was set in Georgia, it was actually filmed on location in British Columbia.

The stars of the show are Christopher Reeve and Deborah Raffin, excellently cast in the lead roles. Co-stars include Lloyd Bochner, Nina Foch, Helen Shaver, and J. T. Walsh as the Sheriff. The very watchable “Morning Glory” was a production of Sharmill Productions and Academy Entertainment, not successful in limited theatrical release. This film has no relation whatsoever to the movies “Morning Glory” (1933) starring Katherine Hepburn or “Morning Glory” (2010) starring Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford, and Diane Keaton.
