My Review

“Moonfall” is a science fiction disaster movie about a mysterious force which suddenly dislodges the Moon from its orbit, setting it on a collision course with the Earth. Two astronauts and a researcher/conspiracy theorist team up to save humanity from destruction. Director Rolland Emmerich (“Midway” 2019) gave the film his best effort, which is good special effects and production values, acceptable performances by cast, and a passable screenplay, which he co-wrote with Harold Kloser and Spenser Cohen. The result is a modern-day “B” movie similar to most of his past projects.

The stars of “Moonfall” are Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson as the astronauts, John Bradley as the amateur researcher, Michael Pena, Donald Sutherland, Kelly Yu, Charlie Plummer, Maxim Roy, Stephen Bogaert, Carolina Bartczak, and Eme Ikwuakor as an Air Force general. The watchable “Moonfall” is fun escapist entertainment with very little scientific basis. It was a flop at the box office for producer Rolland Emmerich, Summit Entertainment, UK Moonfall LLP, Centropolis Entertainment, Huayi Brothers Media Corp., AGC Studios, Tencent Pictures, and Lionsgate Films.
