George Clooney and Julia Roberts star in the thrilling crime drama “Money Monster.” Clooney plays a financial talk show host, and Roberts is his producer, whose live program is taken hostage by an angry investor who lost his inheritance after investing in stock on advise from Clooney’s character.
Director Jodie Foster (“Home for the Holidays” 1995) kept an even keel throughout the film and did not overdo the drama, thus holding the audience’s collective attention for the 98 minute duration. The well written screenplay was composed by Alan Di Fiore, Jim Kouf, and Jamie Linden. Co-stars include Dominic West, Christopher Denham, Giancarlo Esposito, Lenny Venito, Condola Rashad, Emily Meade, and Caitriona Balfe, well-known to television audiences as Claire Fraser in “Outlander.”
“Money Monster” did have some success at the box office, paying off the investments for producer George Clooney, TriStar Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
