My Review

“Marlowe” is a noir mystery thriller telling the story of private detective Philip Marlowe in 1939 Los Angeles who is hired by an heiress to find her missing boyfriend. The drama proceeds from there, fairly well handled by director Neil Jordan, who co-wrote the screenplay with William Monahan.

Liam Neeson fits the bill in the title role, but seems a little sluggish in his performance. The movie employes good production values, such as good sets, costumes, classic automobiles, etc. Co-stars include Diane Kruger, Jessica Lange, Colm Meany, Alan Cummings, Danny Huston, Ian Hart, Adewale Akinnuoye-Ajbaje, Francois Arnaud, Seana Kerslake, and Patrick Muldoon. “Marlowe” was not a success at the box office for Davis Films, Parallel Films, Hill Productions, and Open Road Films.
