My Review

Director-screenwriter Peter Landesman (“Parkland” 2013) and producer Ridley Scott (“Alien” 1979) made a poor attempt to depict the drama behind FBI official Mark Felt’s leaking of information about the Watergate scandal to reporter Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein in the 1970’s. The bland and uninteresting screenplay by Landesman made this independent film play like a mediocre documentary.

There are no complaints about Neeson’s performance in the title role. He delivered his usual heartfelt offering as Felt, the Deputy Director passed over for the big job after the death of J. Edgar Hoover. He came under enormous pressure after becoming the anonymous source for Woodward and Bernstein, which eventually led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon.

The supporting cast includes Diane Lane, Tony Goldwyn, Maika Monroe, Kate Walsh, Josh Lucas, Michael C. Hall, Tom Sizemore, Bruce Greenwood, Brian D’Arcy James, Noah Wyle, Eddie Marsan, and Julian Morris as Bob Woodward. “Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House” from Mandalay and Scott Free Productions is quite a yawner, and a huge flop at the box office.
