“Mama Mia! Here We Go Again” has surprised virtually everyone at turning out to be a superior motion picture than the original “Mama Mia!” of 2008. It has a clearer storyline, better writing, wittier humor, with even better music.
Most of the cast from 2008 has returned for the sequel. Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried reprise the mother-daughter duo, with Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Dominic Cooper as the boyfriends. Other returnees include Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Stellan Skarsgard. Andy Garcia and Cher have been added, with the later displaying her famous vocal abilities in two musical numbers.
As in the first picture, the music of Abba is featured prominently throughout. It is hard to believe that ten years have passed since the premiere of “Mama Mia!,” but director-screenwriter Ol Parker (“The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” 2011) has ensured an enjoyable and watchable “Mama Mia! Here We Go Again,” a big hit at the box office for Universal Pictures.
