My Review

Christmas cliches and holiday hollowness pull “Love the Coopers” into the lower levels of Yuletide movies. Unfocused direction by Jessie Nelson (“I am Sam” 2001) and a terrible screenplay by Steven Rogers make this star-studded film drag on and on; it seems longer than its 107 minutes.

Diane Keaton and John Goodman head a large family that viewers have a difficult time keeping track of. The sloppy writing and blurry characters kept this reviewer wondering who’s on first. What a waste of a talented supporting cast behind Keaton and Goodman: Marisa Tomei, Jake Lacy, Amanda Seyfried, Anthony Mackie, Olivia Wilde, June Squibb, Alan Arkin, Ed Helms, Alex Borstein, Timothy Chalamet, and Steve Martin as the Narrator.

“Love the Coopers” was not very successful in theatrical release and maybe did not make enough money to cover the salary of the large cast. Not much love for the production companies financing the project: Imagine Entertainment, CBS Films, and Groundswell Productions.
