My Review

“Little Man Tate” is a drama movie about a seven-year-old boy who is a child prodigy. His mother allows him to go to a summer camp for gifted children, hoping to give him experiences of life around other young geniuses. This excellent story was well-crafted by Jodie Foster in her directorial debut. She gave the film good pacing, insightful character development, solid performances from a talented cast, overall marvelous production values, and an awesome screenplay by Scott Frank.

Adam Hann-Byrd was a natural in the title role. This was his feature film debut, and he went on to other projects. Jodie Foster did doubt-duty as the boy’s mother and director. She has a natural flair not only for acting, but also for motion picture story-telling as well. Co-stars include Dianne Wiest, Harry Connick Jr., David Pearce, Debbie Mazar, Josh Mostel, P. J. Ochlan, Danitra Vance, Celia Weston, George Plimpton, and Bob Balaban. The watchable “Little Man Tate” was successful at the box office for Orion Pictures and Columbia Pictures.
