“Little Italy” is a run-of-the-mill romantic comedy loosely based on Bill Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” with young people in love who come from two feuding Italian-Canadian families. Director Donald Petrie (“Mystic Pizza” 1988) seemed to throw together this picture at the last minute, with a screenplay penned by Steve Galluccio and Vinay Virmani.
The cast did their job well enough. The couple in question are played by Emma Roberts and Hayden Christensen, better known as Anakin Skywalker of “Star Wars” fame. The parents are played by Alyssa Milano, Adam Ferrara, Gary Basaraba, and Linda Kash. Also appearing are Danny Aiello, Andrea Martin, Jane Seymour, Andrew Phung, and Cristina Rosato.
“Little Italy” is an independent Canadian picture, an abject failure at the box office.
