“Let’s Be Cops” is a comedic story about two friends whose one-time impersonation of police officers grows into a full-time job. Producer-director Luke Greenfield (“The Girl Next Door” 2004) skillfully progressed the storyline in an entertaining fashion; he co-wrote the screenplay with Nicholas Thomas.
Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. have good on-screen chemistry in what is essentially a “buddy picture.” The supporting cast includes Andy Garcia, Rob Riggle, Nina Dobrev, Keegan-Michael Key, James D’Arcy, John Lajoie, Tom Mardirosian, Natasha Leggero, and Jeff Chase. Unfortunately for films like this one, there is excessive bad language, and the R rating could have been changed to PG-13 by eliminating the frequency of f-bombs. “Let’s Be Cops” did have some success in theatrical release for 20th Century Fox.
