Steve McQueen stars in an authentic depiction of the LeMans auto race in France, skillfully directed by Lee H. Katzin (“Heaven with a Gun” 1969), written by Harry Kleiner. “LeMans” contains actual film footage shot during the 1970 race. It is interspersed with the movie’s fictional storyline. The fantastic results are a tribute to editors Ghislaine Desjonqueres, Donald W. Ernst, and John Woodcock.
McQueen works with a mostly European cast including Siegfried Rauch, Elga Andersen, Ronald Leigh-Hunt, Fred Haltiner, Luc Merenda, Louise Edlind, Angelo Infanti, and Carlo Cecchi. The musical score was composed by Michel Legrand. “LeMans” was a flop at the box office for Cinema Center Films and National General Pictures.
However, if you are a fan of Steve McQueen and auto racing, you will enjoy this film.
