My Review

“Larry Crowne” is the feel-good romantic comedy movie of the summer of 2011. Tom Hanks stars as a man who get laid off from his job, returns to school at the local community college, and hooks up with one of his class instructors, played by Julia Roberts. Hanks is also the capable director (only his second job since he was at the helm of 1996’s “That Thing You Do”), and co-writer of the screenplay with Nia Vardalos.

Hanks the director takes full advantage of the chemistry between Hanks the star and Roberts. They really make the film! The supporting cast includes Bryan Cranston, Cedric the Entertainer, Taraji P. Henson, Pam Grier, Wilmer Valerrama, Rami Malek, George Takei, Rita Wilson, Dale Dye, Ian Gomez, Nia Vardalos, Rob Riggle, Grace Gummer, and Chet Hanks, son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.

“Larry Crowne” was a modest hit at the box office for producer Tom Hanks and Universal Pictures.
