My Review

“L. A. Story” is a romantic comedy about a television weatherman who begins receiving messages from an electronic freeway sign near his home. It gives him advise on romance and other areas of his life. Director Mick Jackson (“The Bodyguard” 1992) put together an engrossing romantic comedy with a satirical side, something of a salute and a nod to the characteristics of life in Los Angeles. The excellent screenplay was written by Steve Martin, who also starred in the picture.

This is probably one of Martin’s better performances of his career. It is one hundred percent Steve Martin. His co-stars include Victoria Tennant, Marilu Henner, Sarah Jessica Parker, Richard E. Grant, Kevin Pollack, Patrick Stewart, Sam McMurray, Susan Forristal, and Iman. Cameos include John Lithgow, Scott Bakula,, Paula Abdul, Martin Lawrence, Rick Moranis, Woody Harrelson, and Chevy Chase. The watchable comedy “L. A. Story” was a success at the box office for Carolco Pictures and Tri-Star Pictures.
