In a year of numerous action-adventure movies in general release, it takes a lot for one of them to stand out, such as a high quality script, good directing, and excellent performances. “Kingsman: The Secret Service” has none of these qualities.
Director Matthew Vaughn (“X-Men: First Class” 2011). who also wrote the screenplay with Jane Goldman, relies to heavily on cliche-ridden characters and graphic (albeit cartoonish) violence. The actors seem to do little more than recite lines, including Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Michael Caine, Samuel L. Jackson, Sophia Cookson, Jack Davenport, Geoff Bell, and Mark Hamill as Professor James Arnold.
“Kingsman: The Secret Service” did have some success in theatrical release for 20th Century Fox.
