My Review

Numerous superheroes band together to save the world from a diabolical villain named Steppenwolf in “Justice League.” Though the screenplay by Chris Terrio and Joss Whedon is not the best to ever come out of Hollywood, it did provide enough action and adventure to hold the audience’s collective attention for two solid hours. Proficient direction by Zach Snyder helped; he was also at the helm of this picture’s immediate predecessor, 2016’s “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill take full possession of the roles of Batman and Superman, respectively, after shaky starts in the 2016 picture. Some noteworthy performances include Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Ezra Miller as The Flash. Expect more from them in the future.

All of the aforementioned cast were returnees from “Batman v. Superman,” as are Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Wonder Woman’s mom, Robin Wright as WW’s aunt, Joe Morton as Cyborg’s father, Amber Heard as Mera, and David Thewlis as Ares, WW’s half-brother. Excellent performances were turned in by Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf and J. K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.

“Justice League” is the fifth installment in the DC Extended Universe, very watchable escapist programming from DC Films and Warner Bros. Pictures.
