“Jupiter Ascending” is a weird science fiction film from the Wachowskis (Lana & Lilly) (“Cloud Atlas” 2012), who produced, directed, and co-wrote the screenplay. The story was quite incomprehensible, blending elements of scifi and soap opera, undermining the credibility of the picture. Something about the human race on earth descended from alien royal families and the ensuing battle between them comes across as just plain silly. Bad writing and and even worse direction.
The talented cast includes Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Sean Bean, Douglas Booth, Eddie Redmayne, James D’Arcy, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Christina Cole, Tuppence Middleton, et al. Their efforts are wasted. And despite superior special effects (the only positive quality of the film), the unwatchable “Jupiter Ascending” was a huge box office flop for the Wachowskis and Warner Bros. Pictures.
