My Review

“Jumanji” is the tale of a supernatural board game that releases wild animals from the jungle upon anyone and everyone that comes into contact with it. This strange story seems to translate well to the big screen with major stars like Robin Williams and Bonnie Hunt and child actors Kirsten Dunst and Bradley Pierce. The supporting cast includes Jonathan Hyde, David Alan Grier, Bebe Neuwirth, and Patricia Clarkson.

Despite the weird premise and scary animals scenes (for younger children), director Joe Johnston (“Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” 1989) and screenwriters Jonathan Hensleigh, Greg Taylor, and Jim Strain have created a watchable and entertaining film. “Jumanji,” adapted from Chris Van Allsburg’s 1981 book of the same name, was a success in theatrical release for TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures.
