My Review

“Judge Dredd” is a mediocre science fiction action movie based on the comic strip of the same name. Sylvester Stallone heads up a good cast that is given little to work with in the lackluster screenplay by William Wisher Jr. and Steven E. De Souza.

Director Danny Cannon (“The Young Americans” 1993) seems to be doing his job on autopilot. While the special effects, editing, and cinematography are at least passable, the film itself has little originality, a slow-moving and boring 96 minutes. Stallone gives a performance that is probably the worst of his career. He was nominated for Worst Actor at the Golden Raspberry Awards.

The supporting cast includes Armand Assante, Diane Lane, Jurgen Prochnow, Max von Sydow, Joanna Miles, Joan Chen, Rob Schneider, Balthazar Getty, James Remar, Al Sapienza, Adrienne Barbeau as the voice of the computer, and James Earl Jones as the narrator.

All in all, we dread that anyone has to watch the unwatchable “Judge Dredd,” which made a small profit in theatrical release for Hollywood Pictures, Cinergi Pictures, Edward R. Pressman Film Corporation, Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, and The Walt Disney Company. A remake called “Dredd” came out in 2012 starring Karl Urban as the Judge. It was not much better than this one.
