The family of the late police chief Martin Brody of Amity Island resort continue to be plagued by the giant sharks, so his widow travels to the Bahamas to deal with the situation in “Jaws: The Revenge.” Director Joseph Sargent (“The Karen Carpenter Story” 1989) put together a passable third sequel to the original “Jaws,” from a tolerable script by Michael de Guzman, based on characters by Peter Benchley.
The cast includes Lorraine Gary, Lance Guest, Mario Van Peebles, Michael Caine, Karen Young, Lynn Whitfield, and Melvin Van Peebles as Mayor Witherspoon. Roy Scheider appeared as Martin Brody in archival footage. The watchable “Jaws: The Revenge” barely broke even at the box office for producer Joseph Sargent and Universal Studios.
The film was nominated for seven Golden Raspberry Awards, winning one for Worst Visual Effects. The four shark pictures were: “Jaws” (1975), “Jaws 2” (1978), “Jaws 3-D” (1983), and “Jaws: The Revenge” (1987).
