“Iron Mask” is a fantasy adventure film about a British cartographer on a mission to map the Russian Far East and China, with numerous adventures, or misadventures, along the way. Russian director Oleg Stepchenko created a terrible movie with a confusing storyline, bad acting, and just plain awful production values. He had a hand in the atrocious screenplay which he co-wrote with two others.
The cast contains famous stars who turn in very amateurish performances, creating unintended comedy. This includes Jason Flemying, Jackie Chan, Arnold Schwarzeneggar, Helen Yao, Charles Dance, Rutger Hauer, Martin Klebba, Christopher Fairbank, Igor Jijikine, and Yuri Kolokolnikov as Peter the Great.
The very unwatchable “Iron Mask” was a flop at the international box office for Russian Film Group, China Film Group, and Universal Pictures. Schwarzeneggar was nominated for the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Supporting Actor.
