“In a Lonely Place” is a film noir drama about a troubled screenwriter who is suspected of murder. Complicating matters is that his attractive neighbor falls under his romantic spell. Director Nicholas Ray (“A Woman’s Secret” 1949) gave the movie quality production values in this sardonic look at Hollywood mores, from the script by Andrew P. Solt and Edmund H. North.
The cast delivered exciting performances, starting with Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Grahame in the lead roles. Great chemistry here! Co-stars include Frank Lovejoy, Carl Benton Reid, Art Smith, Martha Stewart, Ruth Warren, Ruth Gillette, Robert Warwick, Jeff Donnell, Morris Ankrum, William Ching, Steven Geray, Hadda Brooks, and Billy Gray. The watchable black-and-white melodrama “In a Lonely Place” did make some money at the box office for Columbia Pictures.
