My Review

“I’ll Take Sweden” is a typical Bob Hope comedy that serves up his humor with a new generation of actors. Tuesday Weld plays Hope’s daughter and Frankie Avalon is her boyfriend, who Bob does not like and so he transfers his job to Stockholm, Sweden, to get Weld away from Avalon. The situation backfires with the comedy proceeding from there.

Director Frederick de Cordova and screenwriter Nat Perrin really did not provide Bob Hope with high quality material. In fact, most of the laughs are fairly lame, with acting performances seemingly done on auto-pilot. Co-stars include Dina Merrill, Roy Roberts, Jeremy Slate, Rosemarie Frankland, and John Qualen.

Exterior shots were filmed in Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake, California, to substitute for Sweden’s northerly climate. All add to the fun in the sun in the watchable dud “I’ll Take Sweden,” only modestly successful at the box office for Edward Small Productions and United Artists.
