The immensely entertaining computer animated comedy film “Ice Age” in 2002 started a movie franchise that was followed by sequels released in 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2016, not to mention film shorts. The story involves a group of animals migrating south to escape winter. Director Chris Wedge did a fantastic job in his feature film debut, with a marvelous screenplay by Michael J. Wilson, Michael Berg, and Peter Ackerman.
The celebrities voicing the animals include Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Jack Black, Cedric the Entertainer, Stephen Root, Alan Tudyk, Jane Krakowski, Lorri Bagley, Tara Strong, Goran Visnjic, Diedrich Bader, and Chris Wedge as Scrat. A humorous and recurring theme involves this squirrel named Scrat and his efforts to protect his beloved acorn. In this first film, Scrat tries to stomp it into the ground, causing a crack which sets off an avalanche that affects his friends.
The very watchable “Ice Age” was a mega blockbuster at the box office for Blue Sky Studios, 20th Century Fox Animation, and 20th Century Fox. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
