My Review

“I See a Dark Stranger” is a unique World War II spy movie starring Deborah Kerr as an Irish woman who seeks to join the Irish Republican Army to defend Ireland against Britain, but soon becomes entangled in espionage involving a Nazi German spy seeking to undermine England. Director Frank Launder (“The Blue Lagoon” 1949), who also co-wrote the script with Sidney Gilliat, ran a tight ship in this movie that moved fast at a 112 minute running time.

Co-stars include Trevor Howard, Raymond Huntley, Michael Howard, Norman Shelley, Brenda Bruce, Brefni O’Rorke, James Harcourt, Liam Redmond, Torin Thatcher, Tom Macaulay, and Tony Quinn (not to be confused with American actor Anthony Quinn). “I See a Dark Stranger” was a flop at the box office for producers Frank Launder and Sidney Gilliat, General Film Distributors, and Eagle-Lion Films.
