“Hunter Killer” is an exciting action-adventure film about a U. S. submarine given the assignment of rescuing the Russian president from a military coup. Director Donovan Marsh (“Avenged” 2013) and screenwriters Arne Schmidt and Jamie Moss have crafted a fast moving two hour movie with and absorbing storyline and little down time.
The cast includes Gerard Butler as the sub’s commander, Gary Oldman as the Admiral, Common as the Rear Admiral, Zane Holtz and Toby Stephens as Navy SEALS, Alexander Diachenko as the Russian president, Michael Nyqvist (in his final film role) as the Russian sub commander, Linda Cardellini as the National Security Agency analyst, and Caroline Goodall as the President of the United States.
“Hunter Killer” is a very watchable motion picture, based on “Firing Point,” a 2012 novel by Don Keith and George Wallace, an independent production distributed by Lionsgate.
