“How to Steal a Million” is a comedy heist movie about a professional art forger who gets into trouble when one of his sculptures ends up in a famous Paris museum. If authorities find out it is a forgery, then his reputation will be greatly damaged. So his beautiful daughter hires a cat burglar to steal the sculpture before it’s too late.
Director William Wyler (“Ben-Hur” 1959) created an entertaining madcap comedy from a well-penned screenplay by Harry Kurnitz. The talented cast is headed by Audrey Hepburn in one of the most charming roles of her career as the daughter, Peter O’Toole as the cat burglar, and Hugh Griffith as the art forger. Co-stars include Eli Wallach, Charles Boyer, Fernand Gravey, Marcel Dalio, Jacque Marin, Roger Treville, Eddie Malin, and Moustache as the guard.
The very watchable and laugh-filled “How to Steal a Million” was not successful in theatrical release for World Wide Productions and 29th Century Fox.
