My Review

Director Ridley Scott (“Alien” 1979) has come up with another classic motion picture “House of Gucci.” This story based on the real life drama of the Italian fashion business Gucci and the family that owned it was superbly directed by Scott and written by Becky Johnston and Roberto Bentivegna.

The picture was a consistently smooth story for the entire 158 minutes, not a dull moment thanks to the professionalism of the English director Scott and the writers. It was based on the 2001 book “A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed” by Sara Gay Forden.

Scott procured strong performances out of a talented cast that includes Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Selma Hayek, Al Pacino.  Boo to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for ignoring this outstanding ensemble cast and awarding only one Oscar nomination to “House of Gucci,” which was for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

The good news for Ridley Scott and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer is that the very watchable and suspenseful “House of Gucci” attracted respectable crowds to make it a success at the box office.
