“Home for the Holidays” is a comedy drama film about a woman going to her parents home for Thanksgiving dinner, along with all of the expected (and unexpected) family problems and conflicts. Director Jodie Foster (“Little Man Tate” 1991) put together an average film with limited character development, lack of focus, and probably a bit too much fighting amongst family members. The passable screenplay by W. D. Richter was based on a short story of the same name by Chris Radant.
The ensemble cast includes Holly Hunter, Robert Downey Jr., Anne Bancroft, Charles Durning, Dylan McDermott, Geraldine Chaplin, Steve Guttenberg, Claire Danes, David Strathairn, Cynthia Stevenson, and Austin Pendleton. The barely watchable “Home for the Holidays” barely broke even at the box office for producer Jodie Foster, Egg Pictures, and Paramount Pictures.
