My Review

“Home Alone 5: The Holiday Heist” is a made-for-television Christmas family film about ten-year-old Finn Baxter whose family recently moved from California to Maine. Finn is convinced that their new house is haunted by ghosts, so he sets up booby traps to catch them. He does not realize that a team of art thieves have identified the home as containing an extremely valuable art painting, hidden in the walls. The hilarity proceeds from there, well directed by Peter Hewitt (“Garfield: The Movie” 2005), from a respectable teleplay by Aaron Ginsberg and Wade McIntire.

The quality of this fifth in the “Home Alone” series is improved from the fourth movie, although not equaling the original two. The cast did their best in these roles, including Christian Martyn as Finn, Malcolm McDowell, Debi Mazar, and Eddie Steeples as the art thieves, Ed Asner as Finn’s mom’s boss, Ellie Harvey as Finn’s mom, as well as Bill Turnbull, Peter DaCunha, Doug Murray, and Evan Scott as Santa Claus. The watchable “Home Alone 5: The Holiday Heist” aired on the ABC Family Channel on November 25, 2012, a production of Fox Television Studios, Disney Media Networks, and The Walt Disney Company.

The next and final (so far) “Home Alone” film is number six, a made-for-television project called “Home Sweet Home Alone,” available on Disney +. It came out in 2021.
