My Review

“Hollywood Ending” is a comedy where Woody Allen plays washed-up director Val Waxman, who gets a big break to once again be at the helm of a major motion picture. However, the offer comes from his former wife and her current boyfriend. Waxman is so nervous as he begins directing that he develops psychosomatic blindness, and must receive constant help to complete his job. The hilarity proceeds from there, well-handled by Woody Allen as the director, screenwriter, and star. The movie has numerous one-liners, reminiscent of some of his older films such as “Sleeper” (1973) and “Annie Hall” (1977).

Allen’s co-stars include Tea Leoni as the ex-wife and Treat Williams as her studio head boyfriend, George Hamilton, Debra Messing, Neal Huff, Mark Rydell, Lu Yu, Barney Cheng, and Peter Gerety as the psychiatrist. The funny and watchable “Hollywood Ending” was a flop at the box office for producer Letty Aronson (Allen’s sister), Gravier Productions, and DreamWorks Pictures.
