Alice Faye plays a young actress whose career progresses from slapstick silent pictures on to the transition from silent to sound movies in “Hollywood Cavalcade.” Director Irving Cummings and screenwriter Ernest Pascal created quite an entertaining look at the silent film era. Director Malcolm St. Clair capably handled the silent segments. It was a success for producer Darryl F. Zanuck and 20th Century Fox.
Co-stars with Alice Faye includes Don Ameche, Al Jolson, J. Edward Bromberg, Alan Curtis, Mary Forbes, Willie Fung, Marjorie Beebe, and Rin Tin Tin Jr. as Rin Tin Tin. Silent film actors and directors appearing include Mack Sennett, Buster Keaton, Chester Conlin, and Ben Turpin. Any silent film would not be the same without the Keystone Cops, played here by Eddie Collins, Hank Mann, Heinie Conklin, James Finlayson, and Snub Pollard.
