My Review

If you liked the humor of 2004’s “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle,” you will enjoy the sequel “Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.” Directors-screenwriters Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg have Harold Lee and Kumar Patel charged with terrorism on a flight to Amsterdam. They are transferred to Guantanamo Bay, with the hijinks proceeding from there.

John Cho and Kal Penn return in the title roles, and seem to earn their paychecks in these roles heavily dependent upon cannabis-based humor. The supporting cast includes Neil Patrick Harris, Dannell Harris, Rob Corddry, Roger Bart, Eric Winter, Christopher Meloni, Missy Pyle, Clyde Kusatsu, Beverly D’Angelo, Ed Helms, Jack Conley, and James Adomian doing an amazing impersonation of President George W. Bush.

“Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay” was a hit at the box office for New Line Cinema, Mandate Pictures, and Warner Bros. Pictures. A third and seemingly final film in the series was released in 2011 called “A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas.”
