My Review

Marvel Studios and its parent company Walt Disney Pictures have come up with yet another blockbuster. “Guardians of the Galaxy” has all the features of a crowd-pleasing summer popcorn movie: Lots of action and special effects, superheroes battling evil, and capable actors populating the big screen universe.

Newcomer Chris Pratt fits the bill perfectly as the numero uno superhero Peter Quill, the “Star Lord.” Apparently he got a leave of absence from TV’s “Parks and Recreation.” Zoe Saldana as Gamora and Dave Bautista as Drax do well as the second and third bananas. Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper have big voice roles; Diesel as the humanoid tree and Cooper as Rocket the raccoon. The supporting cast includes Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, and Seth Green as the voice of Howard the Duck.

The imaginative people at Marvel came up with all this, including producer Kevin Feige (President of Marvel Studios), director James Gunn (“Super” 2010), and screenwriters Nicole Perlman and Gunn. “Guardians of the Galaxy” is the tenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a smash hit at the box office for Marvel Studios and The Walt Disney Company.
