My Review

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John are featured in one of the most popular rock-and-roll musicals of all time. “Grease” is the story of teenage love set in a 1950’s high school, based on the 1971 stage musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Catchy tunes, good dance numbers, and appealing characters abound in this picture.

Newton-John is well known as a singer, so her musical prowess is no surprise. The eye-opener is that John Travolta can carry a tune or two in a major musical. Wonders never cease! The supporting cast is also populated by a variety of talented performers: Jeff Conway, Michael Tucci, Stockard Channing, Didi Conn, Dinah Manoff, Lorenzo Lamas, Eddie Deezon, Eve Arden, Sid Ceasar, Dody Goodman, Alice Ghostley, Dick Patterson, Fannie Flagg, Joan Blondell, Frankie Avalon, Edd Byrnes, and the group Sha-Na-Na.

Director Randall Kleiser (“The Blue Lagoon” 1980), screenwriters Bronte Woodard and Alan Carr, music coordinator Michael Gibson, and the everyone at Paramount Pictures certainly put their best foot forward in producing “Grease,” a very watchable musical whose sound track went to the top of the charts and that audiences still enjoy today.
