My Review

The Weinstein Company has another yawner on its hands called “Grace is Gone.” It is the sad story of a man whose wife is killed in combat in Iraq, and the difficulty he has in breaking the news to his two young daughters. First time director James C. Strouse can take full credit for this slow moving and tedious drama; he is also the screenwriter.

The cast is not particularly impressive either; they seem to be delivering sluggish and unenergetic performances. This includes John Cusack, Allessandro Nivola, Gracie Bednarczyk, Shelan O’Keefe, and Dana Lynn Gilhooley. Marisa Tomei and Mary Kay Place make cameo appearances. An interesting note about the film is that superstar Clint Eastwood composed the musical score.

Other than that, the audience for “Grace is Gone” was mostly gone from the theaters in this box office flop, much to the chagrin of producer John Cusack and The Weinstein Company.
