“God’s Country” is the story of an retired police woman from New Orleans who leaves the area after Hurricane Katrina and moves to a remote area of Montana, only to run into trouble when she confronts two hunters trespassing on her property. Producer-director Julian Higgins has a sluggish and slow-moving movie on his hands with a plot and storyline that are muddled and filled with inconsistencies. This motion picture does not qualify as a “thriller'” as advertised. He co-wrote the mediocre screenplay with Shane Ogbonna.
The actors perform well enough, with the cast headed by Thandiwe Newton in the lead role. Co-stars include Jeremy Bobb, Joris Jarsky, Kai Lennox, Jefferson White, Tanaya Beatty, and Dan Gravage as the funeral director. The viewers feels like they are at a funeral during the entire length of the unwatchable “God’s Country,” a big flop in theatrical release from Cold Iron Pictures, The Film Arcade, and IFC Films.
