My Review

Nothing succeeds like success as Elvis Presley starred in his 18th motion picture. “Girl Happy” has all of the elements of a popular Elvis film: Hit songs, pretty girls, and the persona of the King of Rock and Roll himself. Presley was guided in this beach party movie by director Boris Sagal and screenwriters Harvey Bullock and R. S. Allen. Producer Joe Pasternak put together “Where the Boys Are,” a similar spring break picture that was a huge hit in 1960.

Co-stars include Shelley Fabares, Harold Stone, Gary Crosby (son of Bing Crosby) Mary Ann Mobley, Jackie Coogan, Nita Talbot, Joby Baker, Jimmy Hawkins, Fabrizio Mioni, Chris Noel, Peter Brooks, John Fielder, and Dan Haggerty in an uncredited part a few years before he achieved stardom in “The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams.” Fabares would co-star with Presley in two more pictures: “Spinout” (1966) and “Clambake” (1967).

“Girl Happy” was successful in theatrical release for producer Joe Pasternak, Euterpe Productions, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
