My Review

Walt Disney’s money making machine continues this year with “Frozen II.” This sequel to the 2013 movie “Frozen” has become the sixth film released by Walt Disney Pictures in 2019 to earn over a billion dollars at the box office, joining “Captain Marvel,” “Avengers: End Game,” “Aladdin,” “Toy Story 4,” “The Lion King.”

Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee (the latter also wrote the screenplay) did a marvelous job of continuing the story of sisters Elsa and Anna as they embark on a journey to discover the origin of Elsa’s powers. Buck and Lee held the same jobs in the original picture, and kept up the quality in this project with great music and performances along with creative animation and visuals.

The team of Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez also returned from the original “Frozen” team to write new songs for the sequel, with Christophe Beck also back to compose the film’s score. There were seven new songs, with “All is Found” and “Into the Unknown” being the best.

Returning voice cast includes Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), Josh Gad (Olaf), Jonathan Groff (Kristoff & Sven), and Ciaran Hinds (Pabbie). Newbies are Evan Rachel Wood, Sterling K. Brown, Alfred Molina, Martha Plimpton, Jason Ritter, Rachel Matthews, Jeremy Sisto, and Norwegian singer Aurora as The Voice who calls out to Elsa, causing her to go on her long journey.

“Frozen II” is watchable entertainment for the entire family, the 58th film from Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures.
