My Review

“Life is like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re going to get.” And so begins the tale of “Forrest Gump,” winner of six Oscars including Best Picture of 1994.

Tom Hanks also won the Academy’s Best Actor award in the title role, the slow-witted and friendly Gump who sits at bus stops and tells his unlikely story to anyone who will listen. Everything from giving a young Elvis Presley hip swinging lessons to meeting three U. S. Presidents to being one of the first investors in Apple Computers seems far-fetched. However, it is not only believable but entertaining in the hands of Hanks, director Robert Zemeckis, and screenwriter Eric Roth, who both also won Oscars.

Two other Academy Awards went to Best Film Editing and Best Visual Effects, for putting Hanks into archival footage with John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, and Richard Nixon, and making it look realistic. Co-stars include Sally Field, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson, Haley Joel Osment, Sam Anderson, Geoffrey Blake, Sonny Shroyer, Siobhan Fallon Hogan, Grand L. Bush, Peter Dobson as Elvis Presley, and Dick Cavett as himself.

The very watchable “Forrest Gump” is a truly amazing and entertaining movie that was a massive box office hit in 1994 for The Tisch Company and Paramount Pictures.
