The writing and directing team of Glenn Ficarra and John Requa have turned out another mediocre picture called “Focus.” With a shallow story and a predictable plot, we are reminded of the pair’s most recent movies “I Love You Phillip Morris” (2009) and “Crazy, Stupid Love” (2011).
The only factor that made this film a success at the box office for Warner Bros. is the charisma, talent, and presence of stars Will Smith and Margot Robbie, who do quite well filling in the roles of two grifters preying upon each other. Co-stars include B. D. Wong, Rodrigo Santoro, Gerald McRaney, Adrian Martinez, Dominic Fumusa, and Robert Taylor, well remembered as TV’s Sheriff Walt Longmire. Without this outstanding cast, this motion picture suffers from a lack of “Focus.”
