“Fast Five” is number five in “The Fast and the Furious” franchise and continues the story of Dominic Toretto and his sister and brother-in-law who have been living in Brazil in order to evade American authorities since they broke Dom out of prison. The trio must deal with a corrupt businessman out to kill them and a U. S. federal agent out to arrest them. Director Justin Lin (“Fast & Furious” 2009) and producer-star Vin Diesel have left the street racing theme of the first four movies behind and have transformed the series into a heist action franchise to attract a wider audience.
They have more than succeeded, instilling the film with outstanding production values, amazing car chase scenes, riveting performances by the cast, and a well written script that has involved greater character development in the top roles. The cast includes Vin Diesel as Dom, Paul Walker as Brian O’Connor, Jordana Brewster as Mia Toretto O’Connor, Dwayne Johnson as the government agent, and Joaquim de Almeida as the bad guy businessman.
Co-stars include Tyrese Gibson, Matt Schulze, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Elsa Pataky, Chris Bridges, and Eva Mendes in an uncredited cameo, reprising her role from “2 Fast 2 Furious” (2003). “Fast Five” was a massive box office sensation, the seventh highest grossing film of 2011, for producer Vin Diesel, Original Film, One Race Films, and Universal Pictures.
