My Review

“Facing the Giants” is a faith-based sports film about a high school football coach whose team has not had a winning season in the six years he has been in charge. Parents of the boys on his team are trying to persuade the school board to fire him. Additionally, he and his wife face major financial problems and infertility issues. Feeling discourage, he is visited by someone who encourages him to persevere with faith in God and to stand on promises of God’s help in the Bible. Watch what happens next!

Director Alex Kendrick put together an excellent film with good production values. He is also the star of the show as Coach Grant Taylor. Co-stars include Shannen Fields, Bill Butler, Bailey Cave, Steve Williams, and Tracy Goode. Most of the cast and crew of the movie were members of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, where Kendrick is a member. Not surprisingly, some of the cast does not deliver top-rate performances due to inexperience, but most are quite good considering these conditions.

The excellent screenplay was written by Alex Kendrick and his brother Stephen Kendrick. “Facing the Giants” was produced on a meager $100,000 budget, and earned a whopping ten million dollars at the box office for producers Stephen Kendrick and Alex Kendrick, Sherwood Pictures, Provident Films, Caramel Entertainment, Destination Films, and Samuel Goldwyn Films.

Other movies from the Kendrick Brothers includes “Flywheel” (2003), “Fireproof” (2008), “Courageous” (2011), “War Room” (2015), “Overcomer” (2019), and “The Forge” (2024).
